Towards the Use of XPDL as Planning and Scheduling Modeling Tool: The Workflow Patterns Approach

چکیده
Given the absence of simple tools for modeling Planning and Scheduling problems, as well as the inability of Business Process Management for the anticipated planning of processes, this paper presents a transformation from XPDL process model diagrams into a hierarchical extension of the PDDL planning language, using the concept of workflow patterns as base of the translation process. The proposed architecture is evaluated within a specific teamwork project management scenario: the allocation of human resources and web services for the development of online courses in an e-learning center.

A Clustering Approach to Scientific Workflow Scheduling on the Cloud with Deadline and Cost Constraints
One of the main features of High Throughput Computing systems is the availability of high power processing resources. Cloud Computing systems can offer these features through concepts like Pay-Per-Use and Quality of Service (QoS) over the Internet. Many applications in Cloud computing are represented by workflows. Quality of Service is one of the most important challenges in the context of sche...
متن کاملPatterns and XPDL: A Critical Evaluation of the XML Process Definition Language
XML Process Definition Language (XPDL) is the language proposed by the Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) to interchange process definitions between different workflow products. The goal of XPDL is to provide a Lingua Franca for the workflow domain allowing for the import and export process definitions between a variety of tools ranging from workflow management systems to modeling and simulat...
متن کاملIntegrated Process Planning and Active Scheduling in a Supply Chain-A Learnable Architecture Approach
Through the lens of supply chain management, integrating process planning decisions and scheduling plans becomes an issue of great challenge and importance. Dealing with the problem paves the way to devising operation schedules with minimum makespan; considering the flexible process sequences, it can be viewed as a fundamental tool for achieving the scheme, too. To deal with this integration, t...
متن کاملAn integer programming based approach for verification and diagnosis of workflows
Workflow analysis is indispensable to capture modeling errors in workflow designs. While several workflow analysis approaches have been defined previously, these approaches do not give precise feedback, thus making it hard for a designer to pinpoint the exact cause of modeling errors. In this paper we introduce a novel approach for analyzing and diagnosing workflows based on integer programming...
متن کاملTowards a WPSL : a critical analysis of the 20 classical workflow control-flow patterns
In 2000, after a comprehensive survey of tools and techniques for workflow management, 20 control-flow patterns were identified [5] and made these available through www.workflowpatterns.com. Since then, many commercial and academic workflow management systems have been evaluated using these patterns. Moreover, standards such as BPEL and XPDL have been evaluated and these evaluations have trigge...
